The Chateau was built on a French/Roman tumulus at the end of the 13th Century. During the hundred Years War the chateau was often attacked by the army of the Black Prince. After the battle of Crecy it fell into his hands. There is legend his treasure is still buried there - we never found it..!

During the Religious Wars, Queen Margot, wife of Henry IV left Paris with her two lovers and travelled to the Chateau. After their departure her bedroom was closed and it was not until 1990 that is was found and re-opened. In the 17th Century King Louis XIII stayed at the castle before going to war against the Protestants. Today the castle is decorated with 16th and 17th Century furniture and well worth a visit.
